ABCB Revises NCC 2022 Transition Arrangements to 1 May 2023

As of the 1 September 2022 advice from the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is that the next version of the Building Code of Australia – NCC 2022 will be adopted by States and Territories on 1 May 2023.

This follows advice in May 2022 from ABCB that the NCC 2022 would be adopted from 1 September 2022, which was further revised during their roadshows held throughout July/August nationally as being highly unlikely to be adopted before 1 October 2022.

Delayed adoption of liveable housing energy efficiency and condensation prescribed requirement had also been highlighted during the roadshows, however more definitive dates have now been provided for their adoption, details as follows:

  • New liveable housing requirements commence 1 October 2023
  • New energy efficiency and condensation requirements commence 1 October 2023

Key changes to Volume One and Volume Two, includes:

  • New volume structure and clause referencing system
  • Fire safety for external walls
  • Egress provisions for early childhood centres and primary schools
  • Bushfire protection for Class 9 buildings
  • Waterproofing
  • Masonry
  • And much more…
