A workshop was recently conducted to assist a Board of Directors to decide if they should create a risk management committee. Many of them had attended an industry risk management training course where a risk management committee was suggested as an option. This type of woolly recommendation is an example of the lack of practicality often found in risk management training. It is something of an indictment of the training process if the attendees don’t gain the skills or knowledge to make such a decision.
